Top Gambler’s Review and Rating:

Casino Windsor is part of the Caesars organization.  It has had its fair share of issues.  I have been playing here since it had its original, temporary location.  For a while it was closed due to a employee strike, and then COVID closed it as well.  So this review is based on it pre-closure.

The strengths of this property are: (1) its participation in the Total Rewards Players Club; (2) The non-smoking environment; and (3) the friendliness of the dealers and pit bosses.

It is always an advantage to have properties outside of Las Vegas participate in rewards programs that can be used in Las Vegas.  This allows you to accrue points in Windsor, Canada that you can use in Las Vegas.  That is a huge benefit.  While the comps are not particularly generous, they are sufficient to compete with the programs in Detroit and Toledo in the United States.

The non-smoking environment is great.  While many casinos will have non-smoking areas or you can request your gaming table to be non-smoking, the entire property here is non-smoking.  How great is it to go to the casino and not have to worry about your clothes smelling like smoke when you return home?  So this is a huge benefit.

The dealers and pit bosses are extraordinarily nice.  This is common in Canadian casinos.  I did not feel the macho attitude even at the Craps Table!  Since some of the games have different rules, I needed assistance from the dealers.  They were patient.  The pit bosses were also quick to joke with me.  Very nice environment.

I was just ok with the gaming rules.  Blackjack rules varied by table, and I could not find any table where it dealer stayed on soft 17 and allowed the player to surrender.  Some of the craps tables had some rules that I disliked (like come bets moving to place bets on 3 and 11).  I did not like the challenge, feature bet.  Most of all, i disliked the rules for pai gow poker.  Instead of straight 5% commission they have all sorts of rules about not winning on a queen high pai gow.  I found it confusing.  Perhaps they should have traditional tables and tables with unique rules.  Plus, I like to bank, and I could not do that.  They also have bizarre ways for setting their hands using house ways.  This led to me losing hands I would have won in traditional pai gow poker.  This also upset me.

Also, you have to deal with customs and immigration if traveling from US.  This presented problems for me because I needed to carry large amounts of cash to play (which I cannot do because of the limits on cash crossing the border).  So, for me to play the way I really wanted, I would need to wire money internationally and plan this way in advance.  This takes the spontaneity out of visiting.  This is not the casino's fault, just the difficulty of an American playing in Canada.  Also, they kill you on exchange rate since all gaming is done in Canadian dollars.
