Top Gambler’s Review and Rating:

The Gun Lake Casino is located outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  It is smaller than the Native American Casinos Soaring Eagle in Mount Pleasant and Firekeepers in Battle Creek.  But it appears to be larger than the Northern Michigan Native American Casinos.

My experience at Gun Lake was positive.  It is a well maintained facility.  Not spotless like Firekeepers, but clean enough.  It is a little more off the beaten path because it is not on I-94.  So it doesn't get the Detroit/Chicago commuter traffic.

The thing I liked best about Gun Lake was that the Craps table allowed you to bet 10X odds on any number.  That was fantastic.  A player can make a pass line bet of $10 and then take $100 odds on a four or ten.  Normally with 3X/4X/5X you can only take $30 odds on a four or ten. That means in that example you get $70 extra dollars in play on a bet where the casino has no advantage.  This is great.  I hit a great streak and really cleaned up at the Craps table.  So based solely on this rule, I would recommend going to Gun Lake.

The GLC Rewards program tries hard to reward players, but falls short compared to programs with properties in Las Vegas.  It has expanded its program from three to five tiers with the tier five being invite only.  This is based off the MLife Program at MGM which has the invite only Noir tier.  They give you all kinds of minor rewards (like 10% discount on cigarettes), but the program cannot compete with MLife and Total Rewards.

The dealers I experienced were very nice, as were the pit boss.  Given the dollars I was betting and how aggressively I played craps, I attracted a a lot of attention (all positive).

So, I think Gun Lake does the best with what it has.  I would definitely stop in if I were traveling.  But I would not go out of my way to play there unless you are a Craps player who wants to take advantage of the 10X odds.
